Catholic Record Society - Diocese of Columbus 197 E. Gay Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215 614-241-2571 Fall Meeting -- November 20, St. Patrick Parish, Columbus We will meet on Sunday, November 20, at 2:00 p.m. in the parish hall at St. Patrick Parish on Grant Avenue in Columbus. Our program will be "The Letters of Edward Dominic Fenwick: a view of the founding American Dominican friar and first Bishop of Cincinnati in his own words," a presentation by Fr. Luke Tancrell, O.P. Fr. Tancrell, the collector and annotator of Fenwick's letters, will highlight from Fenwick's own words (1803-1832) the distinctive quality of the man. Presupposed will be knowledge of the basic saga of Fenwick's life-journey (1768-1832), already ably presented to our members by the engaging lectures of Dr. Anthony Lisska and Sister Loretta Petit, O.P. Fenwick's handwritten letters in several languages were for most part not written for publication, a feature which heightens our appreciation of this bravehearted Marylander. Within the body of Catholicism, his challenge was to transplant the Order of Preachers (Dominicans) from England to the frontiers of Kentucky and Ohio and to the Indian villages of the Great Lakes region. Fr. Tancrell's interest in this project is of many years duration, being himself a member of the Dominican Order since 1953 and obviously appreciative of the work of his Dominican predecessors. A native of Massachusetts, his work in teaching and chaplaincy has brought him to several assignments in the Eastern Province of St. Joseph. Specialists in history who have seen his new book, The Edward Dominic Fenwick Papers, have been well pleased. Bulletin Editor If our Bulletin is to continue, we must have a new editor, someone not to write stories but to be in charge of preparation each month, beginning in 2006. If you have any suggestions or are able to volunteer for this position, contact Chairman Pat Mooney (614-279-6665) or Don Schlegel (614-771-9090).
