Spring Quarterly Meeting -- May 20 Our Spring Quarterly Meeting will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2007 in the first floor meeting room of Trinity School (behind St. Christopher Church, 1420 Grandview Avenue). Our program will be “Remembering Bishop Fulcher: Priest, Teacher, Pastor, Bishop, and Family Member,” a conversation with George Fulcher, the bishop's nephew. Anyone with a memory or memorabilia of this much loved and respected teacher, pastor, and bishop is invited to share it at this meeting.
Most Rev. George Avis Fulcher was born in Columbus in 1922, ordained a priest in 1948, appointed auxiliary bishop of Columbus in 1976, and Bishop of Lafayette in 1983. Along this path he was assistant pastor at several parishes and founding pastor at St. Anthony Parish and rector at St. Joseph Cathedral; he taught theology at the Josephinum; he was editor of the Catholic Times; represented the Church at many local ecumenical meetings; and worked with the NCCB Committee that wrote the bishops' “peace pastoral.” His life was cut short by a tragic auto accident in 1984. Twenty-three years later, he is still fondly remembered by many in this diocese.
Membership Long-time member Marty Finnegan of New Philadelphia passed away on March 1 at the age of 81. We will have a Mass offered for him. May he and all of our deceased members rest in peace.
