Saturday, February 21 The program for our Winter meeting will be unique in the history of our Society. "The O'Shaughnessys, Dorrians, and O'Gradys: Franklin County Irish Catholic Political History" will be presented by Maryellen O'Shaughnessy (Franklin County Clerk of Courts), Julia Dorrian, Esquire (Franklin County Municipal Judge), and John O'Grady (Franklin County Commissioner). Each panelist, a second or third generation politico, will present a brief account of the family's political history, to be followed by interaction among the panelists and with those in attendance. Republican, Independent, Green, and other variant guests are welcome, so long as respectful discourse is maintained. Abraham Lincoln memorabilia will be on display, in commemoration of the bicentennial of the birth of our 16th president. Included are New York newspapers from April 15, 1865 through several dates in June of that year. A display table will be provided for any political memorabilia attendees may wish to share. Please notify Pat Mooney in advance if you plan to bring anything larger than a voting booth. Anyone owning campaign shirts, hats, sashes or scarves is invited to wear them. (These may be from any campaign, but may not carry language that might shock anyone's "lace curtain" grandmother. "Shanty" grandmothers are rock-solid unshockable.) Cost of the luncheon is $20 per person and reservations must be received by Monday, February 16. We will gather at Westminster Thurber Community, Neil Avenue & Goodale Street in Columbus, at 11:30 for Punch & Pickups. The meal, served at 12:00 noon, will consist of a green salad, roast chicken half (actually a 51% majority), two sides (left and right), rolls (voter, that is), butter, beverages (alas, only the coffee is a brew), and white chocolate bread pudding melba. Lunch will be followed by the program and then the business meeting. Society members are encouraged to bring guests. Please make reservations using the form. For further information contact Patrick Mooney at pmooney@columbus.rr.com or 614-225-0130. Business Meeting At the meeting we will elect officers to serve the two-year term 2009-2010. In addition, we will discuss and vote on an amendment to the Society By-Laws, proposed by the officers. The proposal is to add a section to Article II-Membership: 2.4 Upon a vote of a simple majority of members present at any meeting, any person who has made significant contributions to the Society or its work over an extended period of time may be named a member for life, without payment of dues. The current By-Laws can be found via the "About Us" page of our web site. Jubilee Museum News The Jubilee Museum and Catholic Cultural Center is celebrating its tenth year and has launched a newsletter and a website. The first newsletter, a four-page, full color layout, dated Fall 2008, contains a note from the Director (Father Lutz), "Experience Artistic Beauty at the Museum" by curator Linda Hamilton, "More Priceless Art--Some of the Museum's Recent Highlights," "Why the Museum Matters" by marketing manager Carley Stedman, and news of the visit of Bishop Athanasius Schneider of Karaganda, Kazakhstan. You can be placed on their mailing list by writing c/o Holy Family Church, 584 W. Broad St., Columbus OH 43215-2710. Or, visit their website at www.jubileemuseum.org. It's quite interesting, with a professional video presentation. Membership Membership costs $15 per calendar year for an individual or two persons at one address; $35 for institutional subscriptions. Following is the complete list of members enrolled for calendar year 2009 as of January 2. If you are not listed here and want to continue your membership and receive the Bulletin, please use the form on the reverse of the luncheon reservation form (or let us know if you have already paid and we will investigate).
